Erskine Bowles

Erskine, a North Carolina native, is a seasoned leader in finance, government, and public service. A UNC and Columbia MBA graduate, he founded Bowles, Hollowell, Conner, a leading middle-market investment bank, and co-founded Carousel Capital and Kitty Hawk Capital.

Erskine joined President Clinton’s administration, served as White House Chief of Staff, led the Small Business Administration, and worked across parties to negotiate the first balanced budget in a generation. As the United Nations Deputy Special Envoy, Erskine coordinated the global response to the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia.

In 2010, Erskine co-chaired the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform under President Obama, producing a plan to reduce the deficit by $4 trillion over the decade ahead. Erskine has also served his home state in many ways.

From 2005 to 2011, Erskine led the University of North Carolina as its president. He continues to serve on prominent boards, contributing to economic development and public policy.
